Emma Harry - Illustrator

Having grown up in Cornwall by the sea,  I have always been a collector of strange natural objects and  since my move to the city of Cardiff, the journey to find these objects is now even more exciting. In a sense, I am a creature that scurries out into the open and picks up these rocks and at that point their story changes, it is like an cross roads in the rocks journey and it is strange to think what and where they would be if I had left them there. This site is dedicated to my ongoing project called 'The World Inside a Rock.'

The rock is an object of mystery. My work grapples to comprehend its permanence as opposed to our transient state. My fascination started when I found a rock that contained many holes lying on the beach. The mysterious holes were once made by sea creatures - molluscs, worms and sponges. They create pathways inside the rock and transform it into their home. These creatures can be seen as a metaphor for how we carve our place in the world.

My aim is to transform these seemingly mundane objects to unveil the true wonder of them and allow us to view the world from the perspective of a tiny sea creature.

Explore this site to delve into and around the caverns underground, though darkness and light, pattern and colour. Travel back in time to the dawn of human existence and further to the beginnings of the universe...
